Biography of Sir Francis Drake by Alisha

Sir Francis Drake will best be remembered as a brave sea captin and ocean explorer during the reign of Queen Elizabeth the 1st , however he was also a privateer.

He was born in Tavistock, Devon, England. He started sailing when he was 12 - 13 years old with his relative John Hawkins.

His career as a pirate was against the Spanish. Four of his ships sunk and he only had the Golden Hind and 58 pirates left. Also he was a slave trader and a national hero .The Queen made him a buccaneer as well as that she let him steal from the Spanish.

When he sailed around the world he invaded the Spanish land and there ship tied there pirates up and punched the captain and called him a dog. Sir Francis Drake also robbed houses and churches.

In 1587 the Queen put Drake in command of attaking the Spanish Fleet (Armada) witch where getting ready to attack England. Drake sailed right into Cadiz harbour and wrecked all of the ships there, before going to capture another hundred Spanish ships elsewhere .

Sir Francis Drake died of a disease called Dysentry on aboard a ship off a coast in the Carribean on January 28th 1596. He was layed in a lead coffin and put on the top of the sea to sink.
