Mrs Daynes

Hi guys!

Thank you so much for you letters you wrote to me! When I received them it really put a smile on my face and it was lovely to hear from you!

I hope all of you are enjoying being in year 6 and being top of the school! And I hope you are all still being fab and working hard!

I'm really well but have been very busy at my new house and new school. Me and my husband are living in a lovely house right next to the army barracks, and 5 minute drive to the gorgeous Tudor market town of Saffron Walden. I have a year 5 and 6 mixed class and have 16 children in my class (7 year 6's and 9 year 5's). When I started there were only 14 children in my class but since then two new girls have started. However, one little girl is going to be leaving after half term as her dad is in the army and is being re-posted just like my husband was, and so that means she will have to move. The school I work at now is called Finchingfield Primary and is a tiny little school in a tiny, but very pretty, village! There are only three classes in the whole school (about 56 children in total!) - and they are made up of children from reception year to year 6! So it is very different to West Earlham!

Our topic has been The Aztecs last term, and this term we are learning all about The Ancient Greeks (can you remember this topic in year 5?). We had a Greek Day where we all dressed up and a man from Horrible Histories came to spend the day with us and taught us a lot, as well as having a lot of fun! Your topics in Year 6 sound fab! I hope you are enjoying them!

I hope you all had a great Christmas, too! Our school all went to the pantomime just before Christmas and, despite being the smallest school there, we still managed to be the loudest! I also taught my new class how to sign Silent Night (can you remember this?) I flew over to Germany before Christmas to visit Miss Manhaardt for the weekend and had a lovely time. She is very well and enjoying teaching in Germany, though she says the German children are quite naughty and she misses the West Earlham children! When I landed in Germany it was really REALLY snowy! Miss Manhaardt and I did a lot of Christmas shopping in the German Christmas markets, which were all lit up and looked very magical! We also had a lot of fun slipping and sliding in the snow and ice whilst trying to do our shopping! During the Christmas holidays, Miss Manhaardt flew over to England for a few days to visit her friends. I picked her up from the airport (as I live very near to Stansted airport now) and she stayed at my new house before travelling to visit her friends. It was lovely to see her again and I showed her the letters you sent to me - she said it was very sweet of you all!

My husband and I got a kitten just before Christmas. His name is Bandit and he is a Bengal. He is a very affectionate cat who loves to follow me and my husband around everywhere (including when either of us has a bath!), loves cuddles and is extremely playful. He can be a bit naughty sometimes (he pooed on my bed when Miss Manhaardt came to stay and he pooed on my sofa a few days later - I was NOT impressed!). We are training him to go to the toilet on the toilet at the moment (Yes, it can be done! And yes I know you will think I am mad!) rather than using a litter box and he is nearly fully trained - he is a clever boy! He is not so much a kitten any more as he is growing bigger and bigger every day. Bandit is a little bit of a strange cat, however, as he has a very unusual fascination with water! He loves it!

I will send Mr Biddle some photos to share with you. Anyway, I hope you are all really well and are working your hardest with the run-up to SATs. I know you will all do great and will do me and Mr Biddle, and yourselves proud! Just think how good you will feel when they are over and you can relax, knowing that you have tried your hardest! Good luck, take care, miss you guys and hope to hear from you all again sometime soon.

Love from Mrs Daynes x

  17. Hi guys and girls! Its Mrs Daynes here! Its so great to be able to read all your messages on here and be able to write back to you! I love reading your comments! I hope you are all well! You can all breathe a HUGE sigh of relief now that the SATs are over. I hope you didn't worry yourselves too much over them but I also hope you tried your BEST! I'm sure you were all fab :)
I've been busy busy busy - in the middle of helping my Year 6's prepare for the SATs we had an Ofsted inspector come to visit our school for two days. But it all went really well. I've been up to Norwich a couple of times to visit friends and family and to go shopping - I keep an eye out for any of you guys and girls! In fact I think, Aiden, I saw you at Gt Yarmouth pleasure beach the other weekend, when I went there for the afternoon with my friends!
I hope you all enjoyed a great Easter holidays. It was my husband's birthday during the Easter holidays and so to celebrate we went skiing - for the first time! I absolutely loved it, although I couldn't walk for a few days afterwards, my legs hurt so much!!
My kitten is not a kitten anymore - he has grown so much (and is fully toilet trained now, clever boy!!) He loves playing outside in our garden, now that the weather is better.
What have you all been up to? What have you got lined up for next half term? Anything exciting? Me and my class are off to the Warner Bros Studios Harry Potter studio tour after half term as part of our next topic. We are also going on our week-long residential trip in July (Mrs Daynes can't wait to try zorbing!!)Oh and me and my class are going to be busy busy after half term rehearsing for our summer production - I have chosen Pirates of the Curry Bean! Should be a lot of fun! We had a very exciting event happen recently in the village which my school is in - sky1 were filming for a whole week for a new comedy called Chickens - it was set in WW2 times so they had to change a lot of the village to make it seem old-fashioned. Modern things had to be removed such as the double-yellow lines on the roads, and they turned a tea rooms in the village into a really old fashioned green-grocers. I took my class to have a 'nose' at the film set (hoping to see and get an autograph from one of the imbetweeners stars as two of them are playing the main characters in the new comedy!) and we were lucky enough to be invited onto the film set by the producer who took us around and explained all the props etc to us. I didn't meet an imbetweener though :( but it was a very exciting week in the village!
A few more days and we will all be having a well-earned rest. :) And then not long for you guys until you are off to high school! Are you excited? Are you all going to city academy?
I would love to hear any of your news! Take care all of you and looking forward to hearing from you soon.

  30. Hello Mrs Daynes.

I enjoyed my half term. I saw soccer on the sands at Yarmouth. I really enjoyed that. A football club called East Coast Rovers (who was called Porto) as it was the Champion League.
